Columbus Deploys SeaWell-Conax Multiscreen Per-Session Encryption, Demoed at NAB

SeaWell Networks announced a joint multiscreen encryption demonstration with Conax, a global provider of leading solutions for securing multi-device and digital video distribution, at NAB 2013.

Las Vegas, Nevada(16 Apr 2013)

SeaWell Networks, a leader in multiscreen video delivery solutions, today announced a joint multiscreen encryption demonstration with Conax, a global provider of leading solutions for securing multi-device and digital video distribution, at NAB 2013. The unique solution is part of a larger Conax Xtend Multiscreen ecosystem solution that has been recently deployed by Columbus Communications, the largest cable franchise in the Caribbean.

The joint solution combines the edge-based, per-session encryption capability of SeaWell’s Spectrum Session Delivery Controller (Spectrum) with Conax Contego Unite world-renowned content protection solution. Unlike other solutions that encrypt each video, the solution dynamically encrypts per stream in real time. As a result, operators have more control over each stream to ensure individual subscribers receive the best quality video possible. Conax Contego Unite™ will ensure consistent content protection across all consumer devices and includes multi-DRM support, ensuring the best suited security solution for each consumer device.

“Spectrum’s comprehensive carrier-grade platform includes network-side per session management, dynamic repackaging and DRM translation, helping us solve the challenge of delivering IP-video over unmanaged networks, and eliminating the need to multi-encrypt every video file prior to delivery – a huge time and cost savings,” said Darren Richer, chief technology officer, Columbus. “These attributes along with Spectrum’s scalability are critical to Columbus as we continue to extend the reach and quality of our services.”

“The Columbus deployment of the joint solution with Conax validates SeaWell’s unique, per-session edge-based approach to multiscreen delivery as a critical component for the success of any multiscreen project,” said Duncan Potter, CMO at SeaWell Networks. “Through a combination of SeaWell’s Spectrum, standards-based multi-vendor integration and open source software, we are achieving something previously unattainable - control over the Internet.”

“The Conax Xtend Multiscreen covers all aspects of a complete OTT and multiscreen operation, providing an end-to-end multiscreen broadcast platform with a focus on security, flexibility and cost efficiency throughout the ecosystem,” said Tom Jahr, EVP Products & Partners at Conax. “Extending our solutions with SeaWell’s unmatched encryption capabilities further strengthens our offering, making it the ideal solution for operators.”

SeaWell’s Spectrum “Multiscreen 2.0” Session Delivery Controller provides operators with a distributed, resilient session-based video delivery system. Integrated with the edge-cache system, Spectrum enables advanced, per-session based functionality, including dynamic format repackaging to any adaptive bit rate streaming protocol, policy enforcement and encryption, on-demand ad insertion and real-time statistics and analytics. In addition, SeaWell’s Spectrum delivers unmatched stream resiliency and quality of experience management.

Conax Contego Unite enables access to the best content by ensuring the strongest content protection available to the market. It handles content protection consistently across all kinds of consumer devices and includes multi-DRM support, ensuring the best-suited security solution for each consumer device. Unparalleled scalability, robustness and ease of use save operational costs and training.
