IsoTropic Networks and Aterlo Networks collaborate to deliver the industry’s first cost effective streaming video solution for remote locations

Waterloo, ON?and Lake Geneva, Wisconsin?(14 Jun 2016)

soTropic Networks, Inc., a global satellite communications provider and Aterlo Networks, a company reimagining overthetop (OTT) streaming video, today announced their exclusive collaboration to deliver high definition (HD) video via satellite IP multicast.

This makes it possible for customers across industries and geographic locations to access and enjoy HD streaming video. From yachts to private islands to remote communities, this multicasting breakthrough makes streaming video services like Netflix a reality for everyone.

At the same time, multicasting, similar to broadcasting, greatly reduces bandwidth strain and costs that Internet Service Providers (ISP) experience when delivering video. This technology introduces opportunities for ISPs, content providers and OTT streaming video services to increase their worldwide customer base.

“Unicasting, the current technology used, requires a copy of the video for every requester. That makes unicasting very expense. Multicasting is a lot like broadcasting. Only one copy is needed for everyone to watch the video,” said Gerrit Nagelhout, CEO of Aterlo Networks. “Multicasting solves two problems. First, less bandwidth is used so speeds will remain higher. Second, it makes delivering overthetop streaming video to remote locations possible and affordable.”

The collaboration brings together software intelligence and satellite communications expertise to produce an enhanced OTT content delivery experience to multiple clients around the world, no matter the location.

“Once again we demonstrate our deep understanding of Satellite communications and innovative products,” said Hank Zbierski, Chief Catalyst of IsoTropic Networks. “This is a first using the iDirect technology and our clients will have access to it this summer through IsosatMedia; with the first solution delivering HD Netflix content.”

“Multicasting was always overlooked as a way to stream overthetop video because people thought it couldn’t be done. Along with IsoTropic, we’ve managed to deploy it in a way that everyone can enjoy HD video no matter where they live or work in the world. This enables streaming video providers to reach customers that otherwise couldn’t enjoy their services,” said Dan Siemon, VP Product Management of Aterlo Networks. “Importantly, this solution does not reduce the DRM protections put in place by video and content providers in any way.
