Facebook Selects Rovi Data to Create a More Robust Digital Media User Experience

Santa Clara, CA(16 Apr 2013)

Driving digitalentertainment innovation, Rovi Corporation (Nasdaq:ROVI) and Facebook (Nasdaq:FB) today announced that Facebook will be using Rovi Video, a database that includes in-depth information on movies, TV shows, and celebrities, to offer people more ways to express the things they love on their profiles. The integration of Rovi Video with Facebook Platform will also offer app developers a high-quality, standardized base of entertainment data for creating meaningful consumer apps and interaction with entertainment-related content.

Rovi will be able to enhance its current social media products by extending its mapping of Rovi IDs to an expansive set of Facebook page IDs. This will make it easier for Rovi's customers to include links to the corresponding movie and TV show Facebook pages in their products.

"We see the social interaction with movies, TV shows and video entertainment growing immensely over the next couple of years," said Ime Archibong, Platform Partnerships, Facebook. "With this in mind, we've sought Rovi as a valuable source for TV and movie information to help provide the backdrop that we need to enable developers to create a connected experience for consumers in their apps and services."

"Facebook is creating a foundation that will make it easier for third-party app developers to build new services for its platform," said Bob Shallow, SVP of sales and marketing at Rovi. "We believe that high-quality data is core to enabling consumers to have a deeper connection to entertainment. We have continued to invest in our data to increase its breadth, depth and relevance in order to provide customers like Facebook with the ability to create a more robust user experience."

Rovi has been the source of metadata behind leading entertainment devices, pay-TV services, and popular video and music applications for more than 50 years. Rovi Video, a subset of Rovi's entertainment database, includes descriptive information on over four million TV shows, movies and sporting events that span from classics to new favorites.
