Kaltura Achieves VPAT Compliance for Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 for Level A and AA and Section 508

Following self-initiated accessibility audit and overhaul, video platform releases Voluntary Product Accessibility Template - demonstrating commitment to accessibility

New York, NY(27 Sep 2018)

Kaltura (www.kaltura.com), the leading video technology provider, today announces compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 for Level A and AA and Section 508, along with the publication of its VPAT statement for its core products. With the release of this VPAT, Kaltura takes its long-standing dedication to supporting accessibility to a new level. The VPAT was prepared by noted accessibility firm Level Access.

A Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) is a self-disclosing document evaluating how accessible products are according to the Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 regulations. It is the leading global reporting format for accessibility evaluations. Kaltura engaged a third party, Level Access, to perform the audit to ensure maximum transparency.

This VPAT Version 2.1 covers Kaltura MediaSpace and Applications (KAF integrations) 5.69.x, Kaltura Video Editing Tools 2.22.1, and Kaltura Media Player 2.71.x, including the IVQ (Interactive Video Quiz) component. This means that the core MediaSpace platform and its integrations with LMSs and other platforms, as well as the Kaltura players, comply with accessibility guidelines such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 for Level A and AA and Section 508.

“One of video’s greatest advantages is that it addresses multiple senses. This is also what makes it challenging when it comes to accessibility. How do you assure that visual information is translated into speech, and that voice is translated into text? There are also aspects that relate to the technology for creating and viewing video. How do you assure that all user functions are accessible? We have taken this very seriously. We strive to ensure that our technology is accessible, and that content can be enriched so that it is as accessible as possible,” says Dr. Michal Tsur, Kaltura Co-founder, President & General Manager – Enterprise & Learning. “We’re delighted to achieve the highest level of accessibility compliance, and to be able to demonstrate the priority we place on creating accessible tools. We specifically chose to work with Level Access rather than simply create a VPAT on our own because we wanted our clients to have the full confidence that a third-party audit could instill. We hope that this VPAT will help our clients meet their own internal goals for providing more accessible content and tools to all of their users.”

“Level Access was pleased to work with Kaltura to fully evaluate their core platform for conformance with accessibility guidelines,” says Jonathan Avila, Chief Accessibility Officer from Level Access. “By issuing an Accessibility Conformance Report in VPAT format, Kaltura demonstrates that it is clearly accessibility-driven.”
