UK government: new data centre

Projected public sector savings of over £100 million.

The UK government has announced a new joint venture called Crown Hosting Data Centres.

The project sets up a cross-government approach to buying server hosting space and should deliver savings by helping to harness the public-sector’s buying power.  Until now, government departments have had to build their own data centres or outsource them as part of IT contracts.

Early government customers include the Home Office and the Department for Work and Pensions.
