The Internet of Things: Scandinavia leads the way

European countries outperforming when it comes to connected machines.


The ITU has published its latest ICT Facts and Figures report exploring key ICT indicators.  ITU is the United Nations specialised agency for information and communication technologies (ICTs).

When it comes to measuring the growth and impact of the Intenret of things (IoT), countries were rated based on the number of machine-to-machine subscriptions per 100 mobile cellular subscriptions.

Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland all appear in the top six, with Sweden ranking top.  The only non-Euroepan countries appearing in the top ten are New Zealand (ranked second) and the USA (ranked seventh).

The UK does not appear in the top 20.

By the end of this year, the number of mobile broadband subscriptions is projected to reach four billion.
