Tech giants form Industrial Internet Consortium to improve integration of physical and digital worlds

AT&T, Cisco, GE, IBM and Intel drive industry ecosystem to accelerate more reliable access to big data, and drive the development of the Internet of Things

AT&T, Cisco, GE, IBM and Intel have announced the formation of the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), an open membership group which aims to break down the barriers of technology silos to support better access to big data with improved integration of the physical and digital worlds. The consortium will enable organisations to more easily connect and optimize assets, operations and data to drive agility and unlock business value.

According to the IIC, "an ecosystem of companies, researchers and public agencies is emerging to help drive adoption of Industrial Internet applications, a foundational element for accelerating the Internet of Things".

The IIC is an open membership, not-for-profit group. It aims to foster innovation in various ways including creating new use cases, reference architectures, and standards requirements in order to help the deployment of connected technologies.
