Netherlands: payment to artists

Settlement means €10 million will be paid to Dutch actors and musicians.

Earlier this year, the Dutch Supreme Court ruled that the country's home-copying levy system was too restrictive, and had deprived artists of revenue. Between 2007 and 2013 the state had failed to apply home copying levies to some modern devices such as MP3 players.

The Dutch government has now reached a settlement with NORMA, the organisation that looks after rights issues for actors and musicians.  €10 million will be distributed to artists affiliated with NORMA.
