EU vs Facebook

Facebook faces possible fine.

EU regulators have charged Facebook with providing misleading information during its acquisition of WhatsApp.

Facebook had claimed that there was no way for it to match WhatsApp user information with Facebook user information.  However, it has since emerged that the technical capability did exist at that time and that user data was indeed shared – although users were given the option to opt out.

Facebook must respond to the charges by 31st January 2017 – they face a possible fine of up to 1% of its turnover.
