Google enters video chat app race

Launch of Google Duo.

The new Google app is competing with Facebook Messenger, Apple’s FaceTime and Microsoft’s Skype.

Duo will adjust to fluctuations in bandwidth and allow users time to see video of callers before they accept (or reject!) the call.

The service is free and can be used on Android as well as on Apple iPhones.  Google will release a messaging app called Allo later this year.  Google’s existing Hangouts app will be developed into a business app.
