You touch on something very important here; That crazy thing about the voice over business called 'No absolute right, but an absolute wrong'. The absolute 'wrong' is not respecting that everyone has a voice job to do; not just one person.

Glenn is great (I hear he gets works all the time lol), and maybe it has something to do with him having an understanding of what each party goes through during a job.

Equal understanding is key to any business relationship.

I remember when I was 16 and I called a company in America regarding a product I purchased (can't name them). I was put on hold, and after 3 minutes, a robotic voice came on and said 'Please bare with us, all our reps are currently on the other line, so go grab yourself a biscuit and dunk it in your tea' (to which I politely obliged).

I stayed on for another 5 minutes, when again it came back on, and amuzingly said 'did you enjoy that biscuit, biscuit boy? Yeah? Well I want one, okay?'

I eventually got through to a real person who had no idea what I was talking about. The joke was on me, I guess.

I would just like to point out that the new improved speech synthesis on Google Translate is from SVOX and not from Phonetic Art's.

I agree on your points 2, 4 and 5. I see repeating "www" as a lesser thing. However, in terms of your point # 1... The kinds of voice mails people leave! I guess a lot of people have really bad phone manners. E.g. if you are a sales guy and leave a message for someone in the hopes of getting them to phone you back, you need to be clear, compelling and concise. Many people actually either forget to leave their number (thinking that I'm going to look it up) or say it too fast/mumble which will reduce their chances of getting a call back.

Yup, I agree with your points.. There are a lot more voicing that exist just under the name of being formulaic..!!

Now that "To end this call, please hang up" looks funnier to me, "To end this call, please press 7" looks totally ridiculous..!! Hahaha..!! :-)

I can imagine that it's quite spooky for you to deal with yourself on the other end of the line. However, your first example of a wine distributor demonstrates the importance of planning (understanding who call and why), correctly defining the grammar, tuning and continuous assessment to improve the system.
